I’ve decided it’s time to move past the cheap and unreliable materials that I have been using since college. I needed to get some panels for the kitchen paintings I am starting. So, instead of buying them I made twelve 9″ x 12″ wood panels using a good quality plywood. I applied a traditional gesso using Gamblin’s version. The surface is very different than I am used to. My only experience painting on panel was very frustrating. I must have applied too few coats of acrylic gesso because my paint just got sucked into the wood. On top of that, I was using economy paints which lacks a good amount of pigment.
